We have Master Roaster and founder Alex Roberts to thank for this Oakland-based company, which sources green coffees from around the world. One of the things we love about Roast Co. is their attention to the conditions under which coffee is grown and processed. They travel to the farms whenever possible and are committed to helping improve these conditions and quality of life. All coffee is proudly roasted to order on a 1960s cast iron, German-made Probat UG-22. (Sorry, we had to.)

Colby Barr and Ryan O'Donovan founded Verve Coffee Roasters down in Santa Cruz and have since expanded to three locations in Santa Cruz and three in LA. We believe their manifesto says it all: "We believe the coffee experience is our responsibility from seed to cup." These guys really care about their coffee and even more about the farmers they work with, which makes an even better cup of coffee. All coffee is roasted on an impressive 1965 German-made Probat UG 15 that you can see in action at their Seabright location.

NEIGHBOR BAKEHOUSE

When head pastry chef Greg Mindel opened his brick and mortar storefront earlier this year, it truly felt like we were watching a longtime neighbor achieve his dreams. With an impressive arsenal of experience from the likes of Tartine BakerySpruceRitz Carlton and Tell Tale Preserve, Greg started baking and selling wholesale to other cafes back in 2012. The best part about our partnership with Neighbor? Getting to see Greg when he hand delivers the pastries!

DYNAMO DONUT + coffee
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

Utilizing her experience in baking from well-known restaurants such as Foreign Cinema and Liberty CafeSara Spearin started experimenting with donuts while on maternity leave in 2007. Her search for "complex and nuanced flavors" culminated in Dynamo Donut, which opened in 2008 with the help of partners Tim MoranBill Stone and Jonny Raglin. Our favorite flavors: classic vanilla bean and maple glazed bacon apple.

DAVID RIO CHAI
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

Rio and Scott first started this chai company selling specialty teas and coffee to the Japanese market. After quickly gaining attention here in the US, they were able to perfect their traditional chai recipe, inspired by Indian milk tea, and also to experiment with unique flavors such as green tea chai. We prefer to enjoy ours the traditional way alongside a fresh pastry or donut.
